Greater St. John AME Church is nestled among a grove of great live oaks just 3 miles north of Kiawah Island, SC and 19 miles southwest of Downtown Charleston, SC. Rich in spirituality, heritage, culture and tradition Greater St. John AME is one of the oldest churches in the low-country.
Greater St. John AME Church, under the leadership of Pastor Harold Jefferson, seeks to proclaim the love of Jesus Christ (the gospel). Come and join us where we worship as sisters and brothers. Our mission is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people.
We are located at 4326 Betsy Kerrison Parkway, Johns Island, South Carolina, near the entrance to Kiawah and Seabrook Island Resort. All visitors are welcome to share in our ministries and mission.
Greater St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church:
* The word African means that the church was organized by people of African heritage. It does not concur that the church was founded in Africa or designed for sole persons of African descent.
* The church's roots are within the Methodist family of churches. Methodism provides an orderly system of rules and regulations which gives structure to our assemblies and ministries.
* Episcopal is our form of government which makes the AME church a correctional body.
Our motto is "God our father, Christ our Redeemers, The Holy Spirit our Comforter, humankind our Family."
The term Church affirms that we are part of the called out assembly of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is the head of the Church, the Chief Bishop, the Great Shepherd and our Overseer of our souls, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.
