Church life includes not just Sunday worship, but active involvement in the family of God. While some auxiliaries and ministries require pastoral assignment or election, members can freely join the ministries listed below.
Ministries at Greater St. John AME Church that members can freely join:
Sister Christina Lyles, Advisor
The Acolytes Corps aids in worship by lighting and extinguishing the chancel candles and by serving as aides to the Pastor during worship.
The Maria Taylor Women's Missionary Society
Sister Linda Simmons, President
Provide meaningful resources, training and guidance in all areas of the church life which encourage full participation in the mission programs and activities of the entire church.
The Church School
Brother George Bowen, Superintendent
The Church School is our primary vehicle for Christian Education. Membership is open to all members.
The Sons of Allen
Brother Walter Gordon, Advisor
The Sons of Allen encourages men of the church to become involved in helping other men find Christ in their lives.
The Youth Usher Board
Sister Angela Cohen, Advisor
The Youth Usher Board is open to all children and young people in the church.
The Young People's Division
Sister Sonya Coaxum, Advisor
The Young People's Division, (YPD), is the youth auxiliary of the Women's Missionary Society and is open to all Young people of the church 25 years of age or younger. The YPD sponsors activities to enable our young people to grow spirituality and in knowledge of the church. All young people of the church should be members of YPD. The YPD is a part of the District, Conference, Episcopal District and Connectional Young People's Division.
